This article I found was titled "Learning Their Culture Through Music" it was in the Star Ledger May 30, 2007. I found the article interesting because it had to do with culture. It was about Chinese children learning about their culture through music and dance. Most of the members of the Hwa-Yin Youth Chorale were born in the United States. They sing in the Chinese American chorus so they can learn the languages and culture of China. The Hwa-Yin Youth Chorale keeps children in touch with the cultures and languages of the country where many of their parents were born. In this case they know the English language, but are trying to learn their native language, Chinese. This choir allows them to keep in touch with their Chinese culture. I decided to write about this article, because as teachers we are going to come across diverse students. I think it is important for children to become acculuralized, they should know the American ways, but keep some of their values and traditions from their native country.
